TBP
Tributylphosphine - reducing agent for disulfide bonds
Tertiary
Structure
The complex three-dimensional fold of a polypeptide or protein chain
TGREASE
Software tool that calculates the hydrophobicity of a protein along
its length.
Threading
Computational algorithms, which use the known 3-D structure of proteins
as a template for positioning an unknown sequence. The overlap of
the sequences is based on how the sequences match with respect to
physical properties at specific residues rather than matching based
on the similarity of amino acid sequences.
TOP
TOF
Time-of-flight; detection Method for Mass Spectrometry based on
correlation of mass of a molecule to its time of flight, often used
with MALDI
Training
set
A collection of trusted sequences (amino acid or nucleotide) from
which a multiple sequence alignment, profile or profile-HMM is built.
Transcription
Process of copying the DNA-based genetic code to make corresponding
messenger RNA
Translation
Process of reading the mRNA code to produce the corresponding protein
TrEMBL
The supplement of SWISS-PROT that contains all the translations
of EMBL nucleotide sequence entries not yet integrated in SWISS-PROT.
Trypsin
An enzyme that cleaves peptides and proteins after an Arginine or
Lysine side chain

U
URL
Uniform resource locator; the string of characters and numbers that
specifies the location of a website/webpage.
TOP
V
Volt hours
A measure of the focusing time; sum of the time x voltage at any given
time
TOP
W
Western blotting
Immunodetection of proteins blotted on to a solid support followed
by proteolysis and affinity selection of peptides containing the selectively
derivitized groups. The relative abundance of co-migrating peptides
is determined by mass spectrometry.
