Frost Mason, Ph.D

Provost Sally
Frost Mason received her bachelors degree in Zoology from
the University of Kentucky in 1972, a masters degree from
Purdue University in 1974, and a Ph.D. in cellular, molecular and
developmental biology from the University of Arizona in 1978. She
subsequently spent two years at Indiana University in Bloomington
doing postdoctoral research before joining the University of Kansas
in January 1981.
While at KU, she moved through the faculty ranks and in 1991 was
promoted to full professor in the Department of Molecular Biosciences.
From 1986 to 1989 she served as acting chair of the Department of
Physiology and Cell Biology and from 1990 to 1995 served as an associate
dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Following a national
search in 1995, she was appointed Dean of the College of Liberal
Arts & Sciences. In the spring of 2001, Dr. Mason returned to
Purdue where she is currently a Professor of Biology and Provost
of the University. Her responsibilities now include oversight for
all of the academic programs on the West Lafayette campus and those
on the four Purdue-affiliated regional campuses.
